Since I upgraded to Windows 10, documents keep getting stuck in my print spooler, and in order to cancel the print, I have to stop the print spooler, delete files from Windows/System32/spool/PRINTERS, and restart the print spooler. Every time it is a shockwave flash object and .shd file. This is happening for about half my print jobs and I print documents all day so it's very frustrating.
After googling the issue I see this has happened to others but I was unable to find a resolution. Please provide a recommendation for correcting this issue and thanks!

Hi @SRINine,
Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with printing. It will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you do a complete root-level clean uninstall and reinstall and check if it works?
For now, try these steps:
Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
- Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
- Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
- Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
- Now check for issue resolution.
If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer, if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Restart your computer.
- Then create a new user account as an administrator from this link:http://hp.care/2rZfJBC
Log into the new user account after restarting your computer.
- Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2DDGsOG and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
- Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
- This should fix the issue.
For further assistance perform all the relevant steps from this link: http://hp.care/2DEPU4l (HP Printers - Print Jobs Stuck in Print Queue)
This should do the trick for you.
if the issue persists, try printing with Windows built-in drivers by installing it from this link: If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2o3acvH
after following the required instructions on how to do it.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

I follow all the tips and clear the print queue by stopping/starting spooler. But when I try to clear the files from printer folder, there is always one or two .tmp files which will not delete because printfilterpipelinevc.exe is still running. I can close it from TaskManager. Regardless, after restarting computer and printer, after uninstalling and reinstalling the HP 8730.... the result is the same. Sometimes I can print multiple jobs, but eventually one will stick in the print , and therefore I have to go through the whole process again (stop spooler, delete printer folder contents, manually stop from TaskManager the printfilter prog, then delete the remaining item in the print folder, then restart the print spooler). And it happens printing from multiple applications - email, excel, pdf... The issue does not seem to be restricted to one application.

I read the post. Thanks for the reply.
Did you try all the steps from my previous post like uninstalling the printer entries, creating a new user account and downloading the printer drivers?
Also trying with built-in drivers?
It has worked before and if you have not done it, please try all the prescribed steps from my earlier post and check if it gets fixed.

I performed a root level clean uninstall and reinstall which worked, until a week later when two software updates were applied:
*https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4093112/windows-10-update-kb4093112
I have a feeling it was the adobe flash player that did it. What next? I didn't have this issue with the same printer on my previous computer/ windows software.

Shockwave is not the culprit.
I found that my Wi-Fi printer was on some weird port, but did not know it. I deleted the printer and then had Microsoft search for it again. Instead of taking the Microsoft “found” printer (HP C6300), I clicked on “ not listed”.
I then selected the vendor: HP and then HP C6300. Then it asked for a port. The weird port was not there, so I selected a port with the IP address for the printer, then installed it.
That is working now. No more .SHD or .SPL files in the print queue.
Looks like something changed my print port and the files in the print queue are not connected to Shockwave which is still on my system.
The printer is still working at this time. Now I know where to check first. Hope it works for you.
