HP LaserJetP1005
Microsoft Windows XP

Hello guys.I have a printer HP LaserjetP1005.I'm using XP.I have a problem when installing it as a driver.I think it's driver is somehow corrupted.I tried downloading it from HP,I tried adding printer on XP but same error: some files are missing and wants me to locate them (ofc I can't find them anywhere.)

So,my question here is,are there any similar printers that I could possibly add and they will work (as a driver) for P1005?

And yes,printer is working properly.

PS : I ain't still using XP,it's for my family buisness and they need to be able to print 🙂

Thanks!

@kennytata,

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I see from your post that you are having issues installing the printer drivers for your HP LaserJet P1005 printer. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find the solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Do you get any error message while installing the printer drivers?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to do a root level uninstall and reinstall of the printer drivers:

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP LaserJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here(Please select the correct version of Windows before downloading and installing the printer software).
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

Huh,I almost lost all hope and I wanted to sell it.Thank you for replying @Jeet_singh.No,I haven't made any changes on it,and yes It does show error messages while installing it's driver.(for example H1044.DLL missing).
I am going to try this what you told me and keep you informed.

EDIT :

I did everything what you said except printui.exe /s,for some reason it says can't find it and check if I have written it correctly.Anyway, the error is still the same ,while trying to install it says : HP1006LM.DLL on Driver Location is needed. Please write a path to it.I once thought that it was only this file missing,so I found it on the internet and downloaded it.But after I showed the path to it,another file was also missing and I couldn't find it.It's just that I am unable to install the driver.

@kennytata,

Thank you for replying,

As I understand you have tried to do a root level uninstall and reinstall and unfortunately nothing has helped to resolve this issue.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to Uninstall the printer drivers and then try installing the Windows built-in drivers for the printer.

Simply turn on the printer and connect the USB cable from the printer to the PC. The drivers will be installed in 2-3 minutes. Go to Control panel - Devices and printers to check the printer entry and make it as default printer if needed.

Check http://hp.care/2nxKJv8 for additional instructions.

In the issue persists, I would suggest this could be an Operating system issue, I would suggest you could try to update the windows:

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to create a new user account and check if that helps.

Try to create a new local user and then try to install the printer. Follow the steps here to create a local account on your PC: Create a local user or administrator account in Windows

Now, login to the new account and then try to install the printer and check.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

I tried everything what you said there. The problem is still the same.I cannot install the driver.

That is why I was asking for an alternative one that can be used for this device.Problem is in the driver for P1005.In Win10 and Win8 there is no problem because they are using different driver that works for that device.
