Have you seen other colors when printing color document?

I think it does then you may have a bad fuser needed to be replaced.

I've got the same issue, same shape, same location, how widespread is this?

When you said same location then it may be the transfer belt but not the fuser.

When it is fuser you can see the mark at the same column but higher or lower with the same distance.

When it is the transfer belt it'll be at exactly the same X-Y coordinate and will not repeat itself from top to bottom with the same distance, or it just begins from top to bottom with whole area of black shadow.

You'd better post one or two picture here which it'll be more clearly.

It's definately on the fuser side, the marks donts appear until after it goes into the fusing unit.

This is a common issue on the M477 series product, if your page count is very low (less than 50 thousand pages), contact your dealer or HP tech support and scream bloody murder. I have been able to help a couple of customers facing premature failure.

Update: HP Support said I should direct my disappointment at my reseller.

I'm having the same problem with my M477 All-In-One (product no. CF379A).  I wa nt to order the maintenance kit with replacement fuser, but can't find the correct part number on the HP site.  Does anyone know what the kit number is?

Hoping someone can help. I’m getting the same smudges down the left side of the page. It seems to be left over print from the last item printed

Did you ever get it figured out? Mine is doing the same thing
