I couldn't get it to work through the wifi network so I used wifi direct connect and had no problems. I've read that a usb direct connection works also. Though I believe you have to use the usb printer input, not the usb slot on the front of the printer, to make that work.

Thanks - I just used a regular printer cable, the kind that used to come with printers. I'm not even sure what wifi direct connect is. I'm a very small business owner who struggles with computer issues. I subscribe to Best Buy tech support and they were no help whatsoever.

Could you elaborate further on the exact method you used to install since this is driving me and others nuts? Their system should allow for easy selection of downgrades but get this is a corporate policy to frustrate customers with original printers. Very poor corporate practice.

Hey,
Found a solution that I hope works for you as well.
- So following the advice here I downloaded the firmware.
- Connected to WiDi (In the event you do not know how to to do this. Use the printer's control panel to access the wifi icon on the top right. click on the wifi direct. select settings. you'll see a password that you can now use to connect through your laptop where you select the different connections on the wifi icon. select the printer wifi and enter the password from the printer)
- I removed the catridges to reinstall. the firmware This didn't work. You may retry after restarting the printer.
- I then decided to reinstall the catridge and repeat the installation process and this worked.
- If its working you'll see messages on the printer with the wording ' ...Programming...'
- Wait till the process completes and reinstall third party catridges.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me solve my problem and help this helps others a bit more

Thank you everyone! Finally got it to work through WiFi direct. The YouTube link was also helpful.
Because I had tried updating it so many times (unsuccessfully), when it finally worked it went through the programming cycle several times as well. I just left it alone, and in about a half hour it settled down and now works.
Phew!
