This is Damyun from South Korea, using HP LaserJet.

Recently I bought a new cartridge for the printer, and found a leaflet inside, encouraging the customers to recycle the used toner cartridge. Thought it was such an wonderful programme for the customers because it is a very handy opportunity to recycle in person.

I went to www.hp.com/recycle and found out a list of shops in South Korea where I can return in person. I happily contacted two of the shops on the list, but they both rejected to collect the used toner cartridge. They just rejected to collect the cartridge without any explanation. It was very curious, since their voices were like, "You were the only one who called us for this kind of problem."

I strongly believed that HP is an international company which has a certain amount of responsibility to protect our environment, so this kind of reaction was quite hard to understand for me eventhough they were only a retail store.

Since on the official recycle homepage, they clearly present "customer/small business" section, (https://www8.hp.com/kr/ko/hp-information/supplies-recycling/supplies.html?jumpid=in_r138_us/en/corp/...) and on the list, there are several retail shops’ number which provide recycling programme.

But in real, they do not want to collect any customer's toner in person/by post. Also, one of the store even mentioned the list was "not updated". Anyhow, I also called HP customers service Korea, and told them about this issue, and their response was even worse. One of the member said "Just throw it away, what is the problem?"

WHAT A RESPONSE.

He gave me a number to ask about this problem, so I called [EDIT] for this issue. They explained that the recycling programme is mainly for the larger companies, and for individuals they do not collect cartridges.

If so, why does HP enclose a leaflet to encourage recycling?

If there were no Korean written there, I might understand. But obviously "HP 레이저젯 토너 카트리지 반환 및 재활용 프로그램" is written there.

If the retail store gave me an understandable response, I might understood. But they didn't, nothing but indifference of this programme.

If the Korea customer service centre had a little more interest in this problem I might understood. Eventhough, Korea has a brilliant recycling environment for the individuals, I realise the dangerousness of the toner to the environment, so wanted to be a part of sustainable partner for the Earth.

If HP South Korea does not have any plan to collect individuals toner, DO NOT WRITE KOREAN ON THIS LEAFLET inside.

If possible, please do not enclose the recycle programme paper inside the cartridge box.

It will be more helpful for the environment, no need to waste another paper there.

Thank you.
