This small LaserJet is perfect for my home office. But I don't print many hard copies these days. The toner cartridge probably is 10-months-old, and judging by weight, I think little toner has been used. I think I've printed fewer than 200 copies since installing the cartridge.
When I do print, characters near left and right margins are relatively black, but the middle of the page is washed out.
I remove the cartridge, put it down low in the waste can and shake it back and forth, then re-install in the printer. Perfect copies result. Maybe after 15 printouts the middle of the page again begins to fade out.
OS is Linux Ubuntu v.18.04. As I recall, when I installed the OS, it found the correct drivers - however I don't think the HPLIP Toolbox has a utility to "clean" or "refresh" the toner cylinder.
I hope there's a way to extend the life of the cartridge for this printer.
Thank you for assistance!
Bob

Shaking ro make it work tells you that thr timer is low.
The weight is likely due to a full waste toner compartment in the toner cartridge.
