Hi silksox,
First thing to check is if there is a low toner alert setting for your printer model. If there is, set this very low such as 10%.
Secondly, the 3,500 pages that you saw concerns that your average printed page is at 5% page coverage. This means that the maximum you could get with this toner cartridge is 3,500 pages approximately. More information on this at below link:
