Color Laserjet 3700
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I experience that the transfer belt in this CLJ 3700 moves to the right side of the unit, which leads to a crackling sound coursed by the edges of the belt gets curled (Please se picture) First I thought that the transfer unit was causing the problem and therefore I replaced it. But shortly after turning the printer on again a crackling sound started again and when opening the front door I saw that the new belt already had moved to the right and I'm pretty sure it will continue this way if I turn on the printer again.

Do you have any suggestions how to solve this problem?

I would check and make sure that all the cartridges are seated and no part of them is dragging on the belt. Check all the path where the belt moves for obstructions. I have seen issues, especially with reman cartridges where the labelling on the cartridge comes lose and contacts the belt.

Thanks a lot for your answer, Repairatrooper.  I have been checking that the cartridges are seated and the surroundings looks ok and I found that the right side "guide bracket" for the K cartridge was broken (please see pictures) I have a scrapped printer so it was easy to replace this "bracket" I wondered that there are no fixing pins , or similar. The "bracket" are "floating" in the screw holes and can be placed i various positions. But regardless where I place it, the belt are still moving to the right.

When I mount the Transfer unit in an OK printer it moves back to the center.  Unfortunately I cannot find other issues than this broken plastic bracket. Any suggestions what to check now? 🙂

That bracket should match all the others, are they "floating" as well or do they float in the printer that works? I don't have one of these to look at and the last one I worked on was probably 5 years ago. I believe you have something dragging on the belt and my suspicion is that it has to do with the black cartridge, check carefully for any bending of the frame or even the hinges on the front door. The whole mechanism on these is pretty intricate, I love the clicking and clacking as the door closes, so lots of places for an issue to hide.

Thanks again Repairatrooper!

These brackets are "floating" (until  screws are tighten) in the way that the holes are 4,5mm and the screws are 3mm. and nothing indicate if they should be pushed up, down, in or out before tighten the screws.

I have to believe that it doesn't matter, although I think it's strange.

Today i put in 4 new cartridges, but unfortunately the problem still occurs..

When I compare this printer with an OK printer I can not spot any difference..

These CLJ3700 have been used in an production line and some years ago they was replaced with "50.000$ printers"

The price is the reason I still use these CLJ 3700 as backup 🙂

Unfortunately only these expensive printers and the CLJ 3700 will fit the production line..

If I do not fix this printer I may see if I can find a used one in good condition 🙂
