We are no longer able to print wirelessly.  I do not know what has changed.

- The printer is connected to the home wifi network.

- The blue light is on, on the printer

I have tried connecting to the printer by the IP address and this does not work.  I can only print two ways right now:  (1) computer connected by USB   (2) sending document to the printer's email address.

I have researched forums, tried powering down printer/router and reconnected the printer to wifi multiple times.

My printer can get to our wifi network, but I cannot get to it.  Sounds like a firewall issue that I am not able to debug.

@rjdixon5135,

Good Day.  Thank you for posting your query in the HP community.  I read the post regarding issues with the printer not connecting to the wireless network. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description and spectacular troubleshooting and commendable diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a recent software or OS update?
  • Did this happen after a power outage or surge?
  • Please let me know the operating system associated with the printer?
  • Is it windows or Mac? What is the version of the OS?
  • Do you get any error message like the printer is not found or the printer is offline?

If the OS is Windows: then try these steps:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, in control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.
  • Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2eRyV3c   and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
  • Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
  • This should fix the issue.

If it does not, then assign a manual IP address to the printer by following instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2tV7I4y  and follow the instructions.

Now check for issue resolution.

If the issue continues, then try these steps:

  • Perform all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2eRk6NW  (HP Printers - Printer Not Found During Network Driver Setup (Windows) if the printer is not found on the network.
  • If the printer is offline then perform all the relevant steps from his link: http://hp.care/2skLHh8  (HP Printers - Printer is Offline (Windows) till the issue gets resolved.

If the OS is Mac:

  • Then for the printer not being found follow all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2sgGUNA (HP Printers - Printer Not Found During Network Driver Setup (Mac)
  • If the printer is offline then follow all the prescribed steps from this document: http://hp.care/2siwDQW (HP Printers - Printer is Offline (Mac)

Now check for issue resolution. This should do the trick for you.

  • For further assistance please check the wireless set up document from this link: http://hp.care/2wWkijc (HP LaserJet Pro P1102w, P1109w - Wireless Printer Setup)
  • Now check if the issue gets fixed.
  • Also perform the relevant steps to convert a USB connection to a wifi connection by following the steps from this link: http://hp.care/2DQw1UN (HP Printers - Changing from a USB to a Wireless Connection)

This should do the trick for you.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums, MKazi is at your service.

I understand that you have an HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-One Printer and are facing printing over the wireless network. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This is a free tool for Windows to help resolve issues with the printer drivers.

If the issue persists then let us uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall. The following steps will help:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • You may download and install the drivers from this link: www.123.hp.com

In case the problem persists then please refer to the steps from this HP document. These steps help in fixing various network connectivity issues for HP printers.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please feel free to let me know how it goes.

All the best! 🙂

I fixed the problem by adding the IP Address to the list of allowed devices in my router.  It must have been disabled in one of the recent router firmware updates I applied.

BTW, the "HP Print and Scan Doctor" was useless.  It would hang when I tried to use it.
