HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477

I am trying to turn on auto duplexing on my HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw. Can somebody help please. I have tried to right click on maual duplex option in printing shortcuts without success. Thanks.

The 'automatic discovery' feature used by some drivers on installation (or update) doesn't always work; ensure that the driver knows that a duplex unit is present on the printer (assuming that one is present):

  • For the printer instance in question, bring up the Printer properties dialogue.
  • Select the Device settings tab.
  • Ensure that the duplex unit is set to Installed rather than Not installed.

You'll probably need to be logged in with administrator credentials in order to change the device settings.

Thanks Distinguished Professor. Unfortunately I am not so distinguised. Read an inept technical user of technology. I have gone into device settings and seen that the duplex unit is set to not installed instead of installed. I can't change this - presumably because I am not logged in with administrator credentials as you have suggested may be the case. How do I log in with those credentials please?

You haven't actually stated what OS and version you are running.

If you are using a Windows operating system on your workstation/PC, then (when it was initially set up) an administrative user (probably called "administrator" should have been created; it will probably have a password which you set at the time?

I can't really advise much more on this; my area of expertise is LaserJet printers, not the vagaries of Windows (or other) operating systems.
