HP LaserJet Pro M15a
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello HP Community,

I just purchased a brand new HP LaserJet Pro M15a printer in Italy for 80 Euos (~$90).

I opened the box and it comes with 2 power cords (one EU standard for Italy, one UK standard that I'll throw away). What was NOT INCLUDED IN THE BOX was the USB cable (Type A to Type B) to connect the printer to my desktop.

So here's my question: Who is the genius bean counter who decided to waste ~$1.50 on a UK power cord for a printer sold in Italy, but then saved an entire 45 cents by not including a USB Type B cable so that the printer can actually be used?

My father worked for HP when they were a real company  - that is to say when they made the best electronic instuments in the world - and I grew up in the 'HP Family' (a few company picnics per year and a nice gift for kids every Christmas). I also worked for HP one summer and received a HP scolarship to go to school. In appreciation, I go out of my way to purchase HP insturments (ok, Agilent, no wait, Key Sight) - and I'd say I've easily spent a quarter-million (of my employers money) so far in my career.

In the old HP, the 'real' HP, no one would ever have been so cheap as to not to include a 50-cent cable for a $90 purchase.

...but back then HP was a company built by engineers for engineers. Now they are just another commodity company run by some off the shelf CEO.

So why don't you guys drop the name? The company you work for has nothing in common with the excelence, integrity, and generocity of its founders.

Hi TSRohlev,

I am sorry about that.

No printer comes with USB cable in a box. The same applies on all brands, so you cannot blame HP alone on this.

Neither they come with ethernet cable as well. The person who sold that to you should have told you that. Or you should have looked at the contents on the box if you bought it yourself.
