Hi,
I have the same problem and I refuse to uninstall and reinstall. It took hours for me to install due to technical hurdles so this is not an option.
Anyone able to find resolution to this yet with out starting all over again? The printer is sold as a B/W and Color printer not B/W copier + Color printer so there must be a better way to do this.

I just bought this printer today and finally was able to find this answer how to print black and white only and it works!

The issue was solved after a reinstall of Windows 10. I had been unable to reinstall the HP drivers and software and had to call on customer support to do it remotely. At the end of this process I was able to print in black and white when needed.

I have the same problem with MFP M281fdw. I am guessing that HP simply wants to force people to buy color ink and toner. I have tried lots of different things and have spent way too much time trying to change this. I am going to go out and buy a different brand of printer because I am frustrated.... SO frustrated..... after YEARS of loving HP printers, I can't stand the printer now.

• Example: Windows XP, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit
3. Error message (if any)
• Example: ""Low disk space"" error in Windows
4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred
• Examples: Upgrading your Operating System or installing a new software; or installing new hardware like a printer, modem, or router.
