laserjet pro MFP m225
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I can't update the printer's firmware. LaserJet Update fails, saying:

"The printer is unable to connect to the service. Check the Internet connection."

But the internet connection is working perfectly, and ePrint is set up. I couldn't do that without a working Internet connection.

Stumped. Help? Surely there is more recent firmware than 2014.

I am on a Mac, if that matters.

Greetings @wjm35

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are unable to update the firmware on your printer from your computer running on MAC OS, is that right?

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Are you trying to update the firmware over USB or wireless?

Recommend you download the firmware update on your computer.

Connect the printer using USB cable.

Then run the downloaded firmware update on your computer to install it on your printer.

You can follow the on-screen instructions on your computer to complete the update on the printer.

The latest firmware update utility available on HP Website is of 2016. Click here to download it.

Updating the firmware over USB is more efficient in cases where the wireless it not stable.

Try this method and let know if it helped.

Thank you! The update was successful. However, if I go through the menu, LaserJet Update still fails. Can you tell me why it's necessary to manually download a firmware update? Is my unit defective?

I ask because it is not having Internet connectivity problems otherwise.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the reply and glad that the issue is resolved. As I mentioned earlier, sometimes the printer firmware update fails over wireless, hence suggest customers update it over USB, this way it is more stable. Not to worry, I don't think there is an issue with your printer.

OK. USB is not really practical for my setup. I'll just be happy the update worked, and download the utility periodically to see if there's a new update.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, once the update is completed you can disconnect the printer's USB cable and continue to use it on wireless.
