Using the Laser Pro MFP M277dw, I purchased toner cartridges from Ink Escale.
Replaced the Black cartridge only so far... error message "Unauthorized Black Cartridge"
Is there a workaround?

Kinda sounds like you might have a bad chip on the toner cartridge. you'll usually see it some where near the front/top of the cartridge and thats what tells the printer its a proper toner cartridge. you might be able to continue through the error, hit the go/continue/ok button (i'm not sure what it'll be on that touch screen) and see if you can get to your usual menu items. If so, print away! Otherwise, i'd send that cartridge back. Is it remanufactured? these tend to have problem above the OEM cartridges.

I took a longshot but it worked. I switched out the microchip from the original HP cartridge to the unauthorized new one, and fooled the printer into thinking that the original cartridge was still installed. The microchips on both cartridges were surprisingly easy to remove. The chip is located on the top of the cartridge on the right hand side, facing the printer, about a half inch in from the edge. It is about 3 mm square, and is mounted to a backing which slides into a black plastic holder. On the original spent cartridge, I had to break part of the plastic frame to the left of the chip, and slide the chip out to the left. It was easier on the unauthorized cartridge, where I was able to tear a flexible tab to slide its chip out. When sliding the old chip into the new cartridge, it fits, but is able to slide too far. I simply postioned it carefully (look at the other color cartridges), and carefully placed the cartridge into the printer, keeping it horizontal. Voila. The printer thinks the old cartridge is back in. It still reads as if the toner level is low, but you can set the printer to not prompt about this before printing every time. I think the only downside is that you will not be able to tell how much toner is left in the cartridge. I always print until it fades anyway. The low toner alert comes with hundreds of good pages still to go. I am not the most tech savvy individual, so I am amazed this worked!
