Welcome to the HP Forums, this is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are getting print quality issues. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
- Use genuine HP toner cartridges.
- Check the paper.
- Check the EconoMode setting.
- Check print settings.
- Check the toner level.
- Print a cleaning page.
- Inspect the toner cartridge and imaging drum.
Click here and refer the document to perform the above steps.
Let me know how it goes.
Cheers.

Thanks for the reply.
I appreciate your time and effort.
Open HP Printer Assistant, and then print a cleaning page that should fix the issue.
-
Turn on the printer.
-
Search Windows for laserjet, and then click the printer name in the list of results.
HP Printer Assistant opens.
-
Click Print, and then click HP Device Toolbox.
-
Click the System tab, and then click Service.
-
In the Cleaning Mode section, click Start to begin the cleaning process.
But you can also consider all the steps mentioned in the previous post for better print quality.
Let me know if that helps.
Cheers.

I am having the problem with my MFP M130nw.
Purchased new April 2017. Worked fine until we ran low on toner and I had to replace the toner cartride. Purchased Genuine HP 17A toner cartridge a week ago fromo Amazon and loaded it into the machine. I got small black dots down the side of every page I printed. I used the Demo print page on the unit.
I read this message page and tried the origional cartridge again - no spots were present.
I returned the new cartridge and got a replacement. Loaded that into the unit and got the smae black spots - except they were bigger and closer to the edge.
Installed the origional cartridge and, again, no spots are present.
I am now thinking: Is Amazon is selling a bad batch of toner cartridges?
Not sure what to do now. I am buying genuine HP and getting apparently defective toner cartridges.
Maybe it's time to buy a knock off product for half the price?

I found the solution.
I ran the Cleaning Page command.
I did not find this in the instructions and the troubleshooting info does not have this information.
Basicall you have have someone telll you about it and then poke around in the menu.
Press: OK
Press the right arrow 4 times until you get to "Service"
Press: OK
The screen should say Service - "Cleaning Page"
Press: OK
The machine will go through an internal cleaning routine for a few minute and should spit out a blank page and it should be free of marks.
This would have saved me time if it were documented better. I returned a perfectly good toner cartridge based on bad advice on this site.
