Very slow spooling. Sometimes gets stuck at 50% spooling job. Have tried hard factory reset and NVRAM reset but no joy. Anybody got any other solutions I could try ?

UPDs will not work with Mac OS, you would have to try a print driver from a similar model instead. Perhaps a driver from another model will perform better than the currently selected one. You might loose a few model specific features, but the basic printing functions should all be there.
If that doesnt work then you need to figure out if the problem is specific to the Mac OS or not. Try grabbing a 2nd machine and installing the printer. Compare the results between the temp machine and the primary one.
Once you know if the problem is specific to your Mac OS or not then you can start isolating the problem down further. See if it spools slowly from certain apps or file types. See if it matters if you are printing over the network or USB.

If you purged the memory on the printer with an NVRAM reset then chances are it is not the printer hardware.
Try swapping your print driver with a different one. HP releases Universal Print Drivers for Windows which come in PostScript and PCL6 versions. I'd suggest starting with the PostScript Driver.
Try to eliminate issues with network connections by switching over temporarily to a USB cable. Once you have it working on USB then you can start looking at any persistent network issues.
