After using the scanner to photocopy an image multiple times, the printer got stuck on the "Wait Image" error. I looked through the forums here for a solution and tried the solutions mentioned in this discussion: HP Laser MFP 135a - Wait Image error when turning power on - HP Support Community - 9164139

Here's what worked for me: 
1. Unplug the printer so that it is turned off. 
2. Hold down the power button BEFORE you plug the printer again to turn it on. (Your finger must be pressing the power button WHILE you plug the printer.)

This was a hard reset that immediately worked.
