HP Laser MFP 135a
Microsoft Windows 11

After turning power on the printer is stuck on "Wait Image" error during initialization.
It's not possible to enter any menu and printer is not recognized by PC (connected by cable). Disconnecting power didn't help either.
There was no print job in the queue. I've just turned the printer on.

From what I've seen in other posts it seems I need to do a hard factory reset, but there is no instruction for it available.

How can I fix this issue?

I've called HP tech support, but unfortunately we weren't able to resolve this issue.
Multiple hard resets and firmware update attempts didn't work in my case.

If anyone has the same error, try calling tech support directly.

Hi @Ogoor,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Laser MFP 135a is stuck on a "Wait Image" error during initialization and standard troubleshooting steps like power cycling haven't resolved the issue, you may need to perform a hard factory reset. Unfortunately, specific instructions for a hard reset can vary by model, and the HP Laser MFP 135a doesn’t have a straightforward reset option available through its control panel. However, you can try the following steps to potentially resolve the issue:

**1. Power Cycle the Printer

Turn Off and Unplug:

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and from the back of the printer.
  • Wait for at least 1-2 minutes.

Reconnect and Power On:

  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Turn on the printer and check if it still shows the "Wait Image" error.

**2. Check for Firmware Issues

  1. Firmware Update:
    • Sometimes a firmware issue can cause errors. While you cannot update firmware if the printer is unresponsive, you can check the HP Support website for any available firmware updates or support related to this issue.

**3. Perform a Hard Reset

A hard reset for printers usually involves a sequence of power button presses, but for many HP models, especially ones with limited display options, this process might not be documented. If there is no clear option to perform a hard reset:

**4. Check for Hardware Issues

Inspect Connections:

  • Check if there are any loose connections or visible damage to the printer’s internal components. Ensure that all cables and cartridges are properly seated.

Internal Inspection:

  • If you feel comfortable doing so, check inside the printer for any paper jams or foreign objects. Make sure the imaging drum and toner cartridges are properly installed.

**5. Try an Alternate Power Source

  1. Use a Different Outlet:
    • Plug the printer into a different power outlet to rule out any issues with the power source.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi,

Thanks for response.

Everything you've mentioned had been already tried during phone call with support I've mentioned above.
Nothing worked. I need a new printer.
