HP Envy 5540
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I need to know WHERE the WPS PIN is located. On my router are  lot of numbers and letters but none of them are for the WPS PIN. I know what it is and I know where there button is, but to set up the printer, it is asking,, specifically for that PIN and I can find no direct answer anywhere. I'm even looking at the IP address via the browser in search of it. One would think that if it is needed to set up a simple printer it would be easy to find as a serial number.

Does anyone know?

Welcome to HP Support Forum. WPS PIN should be at the back of your router (if supported) not from your printer. Please watch the following video which is for a different printer but very similar, if not the same

I always, yes always use classic way: run Setup from the CD which comes with printer.

Regards.

Thanks (and for the video) but I did all that was described previously on setting up the printer, wps button etc. It is a HP ENVY 5540. With my other laptop, which was a MACBOOK PRO OS High Sierra, it worked with it fine, but I recently purchased a Windows 10 OS laptop and through various forums, am finding out that because of the 10.0 OS it may be "common" that it will "pair" temporarily, which is what has been happening. It seeks the printer, finds the printer, successfully connects to the printer, I make it the default , but when I print, it says it can't find it and I have to begin the search all over, again and again.

I have been able to send pdfs  through email to my android phone and print from there.

Do you know of this being a current temp issue  for OS 10 until the "kinks" are worked out?

(I was actully able to print a few pages! But tried again later and it couldn't find it again. Frustrating)

UPDATE: I ran the troubleshooter since it was still being seen but says........

HP ENVY SERIES

Default, Error

Problems found: Printer HP ENVY cannot be contacted over network (not fixed)

Your computer is configured correctly but the device or resource is not responding (my ip address) <hazard sign>

Any thoughts?

Hello again, this morning while researching further, I found this...

".....Many hardware devices (such as printers) and accessories that work with Windows 10 will work with Windows 10 S but may have limited functionality. Since Windows 10 S has just been recently announced, we're working with our partners to provide more detailed information soon.

To see if certain hardware is compatible with Windows 10 S, check with the manufacturer.

If you absolutely need to use a device that's not currently compatible, you'll need to switch to Windows 10 Pro. For more info, see Windows 10 S FAQ...."

About Windows 10 in S mode

Details subject to periodic updating; check back here for the latest information.

How do I get a Windows 10 in S mode device?

When buying a new Windows 10 device, you should select one that comes from the PC manufacturer with S mode enabled. You can ask your OEM, your retailer, or check the technical specifications or device packaging to see if a particular device comes in S mode.

I DO HOPE AN UPDATE BECOMES AVAILABLE THAT WILL SOLVE THIS ISSUE. I DON'T WANT TO SWITCH TO A MODE THAT CAUSES OTHER APPS NOT TO WORK AS I NEED THEM ALL TO BE WORKING PROPERLY AT ALL TIMES, including my printer 😕
