M201dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am quite frustrated. I have been trying to get two Word documents to print, and cannot get them to work. The OS is Windows 10, Insider build 16257. Office 2016 is installed, via Office 365 Home. The printer is an HP m201dw.

The documents print fine on a Canon inkjet printer that I have, but I need them on the laser printer. I have reinstalled the printer driver twice. I have reinstalled Office once. I can print to the HP successfully from Edge, Notepad, and even from a PDF reader app. I can export the document to pdf and it prints, however the export to pdf process is broken, and breaks my formatting.

I have renamed Normal.dotm as is suggested by a number of other forum posts on the web. No joy.

All Office applications fail to print. Outlook just gives a message that there is an error from the printer. Excel gives more info, but it is similar to the title message above, that Word offers. Publisher won't print, reporting an error from the printer.

Something between Office and the printer is broken, but somehow other applications print to this printer just fine. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you for posting your query. I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are facing issues with your HP LaserJet Pro M201dw wherein it does not print from a Word document.

Let's go through a few steps that may help to fix this issue.

And here are a few steps in the link to install the basic drivers from the link: Basic Print Driver

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

This was the same driver that I had already uninstalled and reinstalled twice, but I went ahead and did it again. Same thing. Word sends the document to the print queue, and it disappears from the queue in less than a second, and does not print. Nothing on the printer indicates that it got anything from the PC. It is connected via Wireless network. Printing from other applications that are not part of Office works fine.

I'm not sure if this matters or not, but I just noticed that the printer does not show up in Device Manager under Printers or WSD Print Provider. It only shows under Print Queues.

Hi @richhopkins,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.

This issue could occur if the drivers are not installed properly.

Let's go through a few steps to uninstall and reinstall the drivers:

Step 1: Uninstall the Drivers:

Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)

Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.

Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:

1. Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing any one of the following:

(a). Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK.

(b) From the Start menu or the Start screen and open Devices and Printers. Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window. Click on the Drivers tab.

2. Select the printer driver you wish to uninstall.

3. Click the Remove button.

3. Select "Remove driver and driver package" and click OK.

Step 2: Download and install the Drivers from the link: Printer Full Software and Drivers

Let me know if this works.

You have a good day ahead.

I've done all this to no avail. Looking at the Windows Feedback Hub, it looks like this is a problem caused by the update to Windows 10 Insider build 16257. I don't know if Microsoft or HP will have to fix it, but someone will, as I'm not the only one with this problem.
