How do I align the print cartridges on this printer?  The instructions only describe alignment for XP and Vista on the HP website.

Hello, @Merlion – Hope you are well!

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others.

The Deskjet 6940 performs an automatic alignment when a new cartridge is installed.  The printer will print an alignment page and scan it automatically while printing to complete the alignment process without any user intervention required.

If you still want to try and align the printer, try the steps below:

  • Go to Control Panel – Devices and printers.
  • Right-click on the name of your printer and then select “Printing Preferences”.
  • Click the Services tab and then click “Service this Device”.
  • The printer Toolbox displays. On the “Device Services” tab, click “Align the print cartridges”.

Also, if you are facing any print quality related issues, try the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2enHt25

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Cheers 🙂

The option " and then select “Printing Preferences” is no longer available in Windows 10.

Is it possible to force alignment via the http page or some other method? I simply forgot to remove the protective tape on the colour ink when I installed it - so the alignment went wrong.
