HP Color LaserJet Pro M254dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The printer is operated on my wireless network.

I can print pdf files from HP smart app and picture files from Irfanview, but nothing from MS Office.

I have comprehensively uninstalled the printer, dowloaded the latest LJM253-M254_UW_Full_WebPack_44.3.2218.exe and reinstalled (using advice as on http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02259020.)

I have also run a repair session for MS Office.

I had problems when I first installed the printer and I think I remember the agent advising the use of a universal printer driver, which worked.

Could this be the same problem

MS office print can see the printer as "ready" on the wireless network

@GarryLD,

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I see from your post that you're having issues printing from Microsoft office from your HP LaserJet printer. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

As you have mentioned in your post that you're able to print pdf files, and having issues only from microsoft office application, this could be an issue with the printer permission. I would suggest giving administrator permissions as suggested below:

Press the "Windows logo key" + "r" to get “Run" - Type "spool" and press ok.

Right-click on "PRINTERS" - Select "Properties"

Select "Security" tab. You will find few entries like "Administrators" and "users", click on "Edit" and give "Full permission" to all the entries. Save / apply the settings.

Go to "Devices and printers", right-click on the new printer that you installed and select "Printer properties".

Select "Security" tab. You will find few entries like "Administrators" and "users", click on "Edit" and give "Full permission" to all the entries. Save / apply the settings.

Restart your computer and then try to print.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck 🙂

Dear Jeet,

I have followed your instruction to the letter and still no joy.

the error from MS Office is...quote

Microsoft Excel

Your file could not be printed due to an error on HP ColorLaserJet M253-M254 PCL-6 (V4) (Network) on. There are several possible reasons:

  • There may not be enough memory Try closing files and programs you aren’t using
  • If you use a network for printing, there may be a problem with the network connection or the printer driver.
  • There may be loose cables or a bad connection between your computer and printer.

@GarryLD,

Thank you for replying,

As I understand you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue.

In this scenario, I would suggest there are two options,

1. Here you can try to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft office application and check if that helps.

2. This option would be to uninstall the printer drivers frist and then create a new user account with administrator access.

Once done, restart the computer and then login to your new User account and then try to install the printer software.

Follow the steps here to create a local account on your PC: Click here

Now, login to the new account and then try to install the printer and check.

Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

Dear Jeet,

Your suggestion was gratefully recieved. However I looked back at the problem as was solved previously and decided to try again.

I downloaded "HP universal upd-pcl6-x64-6.6.5.23510.exe" and installed it.

Low and behold, the printer works again from all printing software so far tested.

I have no idea why this is so. If you could shed some light on this it would be most appreciated.

Thanking you

Garry
