Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

We have 2 of these printers in the shop. We can't get the front feed tray to work. If you feed the paper in, we tried face side up and face side dowm, it pulls the paper in, we then press the copy soft key on the screen, it spits the paper out at the out put bin without making a copy. If we tell it to make 2 copies it spits out the original and 1 blank page. Is this not suppose to make a copy for us without having to feed it in through the top? Any suggestions? They can't both be broken.

For you to make a copy, you need to put the document you wish to copy on the scanner bed and then the printer will pull in a blank paper from the front single feed tray, make a copy and spit out the copy from there itself.

Hope this helps.

@GH1965

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  1. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  6. NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

Print a cleaning page to clean the paper feed and pick rollers:

On the home screen of the control panel, swipe left, and then touch the Setup icon.

  1. Swipe down, and then touch Service.

  2. Touch Cleaning Page.

  3. Load plain letter or A4 paper in Tray 1 when the printer prompts you, and then press OK to begin the cleaning process.

  4. Wait until the process is complete, and then recycle the page that prints.

If the issue persists, please perform the remaining steps from this document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-color-laserjet-pro-m280-m281-multifunction-printer-series/14...

Hello Betty,

Still not working.

Disconnected as told to reset, ran a cleaning page as well, still won’t copy.

Pulls the paper in to copy, spits it out without a copy made. Tell it 2 copies

you get your original and a blank page.

The cleaning page was blank. It came out white with no ink on it. Is that correct?

Thanks,

The cleaning page shouldn't be blank. Try changing the toner cartridges. Are you able to copy from the scanner glass?

Also, follow the steps from this document: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-color-laserjet-pro-m280-m281-multifunction-printer-series/14...

Sooo that's a weird feature for a machine. I thought it was used to make a copy. Feed what you want to copy into the feed tray from the front. Not quite sure why someone would ever use it if you have to 1st be out of paper in your paper tray, 2nd now have to raise the scan bed. Maybe if you wanted to use a different size paper? Well I tried what you said and it did in fact work. I appreciate the help.
