Please know that I am not the best one to answer this question.

I can offer the following limited advice:

Firmware

I did not find anything in the Firmware notices about "Media" sizes -- nonetheless, if you have not done so previously, it is generally recommended that you keep the Firmware Updated.

Please READ all instructions carefully before updating the Firmware.

Reminder:

Full Solution Software (printer software) must be installed / functional before the Firmware is updated

Printing

It appears that the printer will accomodate a wide variety of Media types (kind of paper).

Media Types

Paper (bond, brochure, colored, glossy, letterhead, photo, plain, preprinted, prepunched, recycled, rough), postcards, labels, envelopes

The printer supports Media types (kind of paper) in several weights / categories:

Media Weights Supported, ADF (imperial)16 to 24 lb
Media Weights Supported, ADF (metric)60 to 90 g/m²

Media Weights Supported, Tray 2 (metric)60 to 163 g/m² (up to 176 g/m² with postcards, up to 200 g/m² HP Color laser glossy photo papers)
Media Weights Supported, Tray 3 (metric)Optional Tray 3: 60 to 163 g/m² (up to 176 g/m² with postcards, up to 150 g/m² Glossy media)

Standard Sizes supported:

Media Size (facet)A4; Letter; B5; Legal
Media Size, ADFLetter; Legal; A4; custom sizes 102 x 152 to 216 x 356 mm
Media Size, Tray 1 (metric)A4, A5, A6, B5 (JIS), B6 (JIS), 16K (195 x 270 mm, 184 x 260 mm, 197 x 273 mm), 10 x 15 cm, Oficio (216 x 340 mm), postcards (JIS single, JIS double), envelopes (DL, C5, B5)

The printer supports Custom Sizes:

Media Sizes Custom (imperial)Tray 1: 3 x 5 to 8.5 x 14 in; Tray 2, optional Tray 3: 3.94 x 5.83 to 8.5 x 14 in
Media Sizes Custom (metric)Tray 1: 76 x 127 to 216 x 356 mm; Tray 2, optional Tray 3: 100 x 148 to 216 x 356 mm

If the Software supports the Media type you are using, select that first - Next set the Paper Size -- if available, select the size from the supported size list for the Media type.

Documentation provides at least some information that explains how to create a Custom Paper Size.

  • If you can select your Media type (photo paper) in the software you are using to submit the job to the printer,
  • Create a Custom Size for the job as explained in this document:

HP Enterprise, HP LaserJet Pro - Select the paper size (Windows)

Reference

How to > Print > Instructions & Settings

 Change print-job settings (Windows)

No idea whether that is all there is to it -- or whether it will work.

Sounds easy enough looking in from the outside...  ??
