hp 4700 error message with number

error number 13.01.00

repeated paper jam tray 2 

can not locate paper anywhere in system

first time ever this error in 10 years use

HP does not recognize the error code

If you restart the printer with cables disconnected does it come to ready? If yes, try printing a report from the admin menu to see if it will pull paper. If you get the same error then likely the pick and feed rollers are worn or dirty. Remove the tray and look in the top of the cavity and you will see rollers there. If they are covered with paper dust clean them with a damp lint free cloth.

Thanks for taking time to possibly help ... removed communication lines and have only power cord ... removed paper tray and cleaned all rubber surfaces with moist clean cloth thoroughly ... paper tray system does not appear dirty .. asked system to provide a report from control panel ... received 13.01.00 message paper jam in tray 2 again

Can you print from tray1/MP tray? If so then it is possible that the tray 2 pickup assembly is bad. On some models it is possible to shine a flashlight from the back of the printer to watch whether the pickup rollers actually turn when you tell the printer to feed a page. Can't remember if that trick works with the 4700 or not.
