Hi @Rayc6

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer is AirPrint compatible. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

  • Make sure the printer and the iOS device are connected to the same wireless network.
  • Note: Many routers support both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz frequency bands, but not all HP printers support both bands. Make sure the 2.4 GHz router band is enabled and broadcasting. If the router broadcasts separate network names (SSIDs) for each band, connect the printer to the 2.4 GHz band SSID.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
  • Press the Wireless and Information buttons at the same time a Wireless Test Report prints with the network connection status.

To restore the network settings, press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons at the same time until the Power light flashes, and then wait for the Wireless light to flash.

Connect the printer back to the wireless network using the WPS method. Refer to this document.

Try printing. If the issue persists, perform steps 2 and 3 from this document.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Kumar

This did not work and some of the tests you mentioned I cannot perform.  I now don't believe it is an iOS problem, it is more printer WiFi issue.

I’m now unsure whether my printer is capable to operate on the WiFi network.  There are no WiFi options showing in the HP Utility screen.

Whenever I remove the USB cable, the printer cannot be found, and obviously cannot print.

I have placed a call into HP Support hours ago and they were to call me back…….whenever!!

If the printer cannot locate the WiFi network and can only print via a USB cable, then I can’t see how I can AirDrop print from iPhone or iPad.  But then how could this have been done previously??  Mystery deepens.

Regards

@Rayc6, thank you for the response.

According to this document, the HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer supports AirPrint. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the printer to the router.

Ensure that the iOS device is up to date

Refer to this document to know how to update the iOS device.

When the printer is connected through an ethernet cable, make sure the iOS device is connected to the same network as that of the printer.

If yes, restart the devices and try to print. try to print from the iOS device. Refer to step 2 in this document to know how to print from an iOS device using the AirPrint feature.

If the issue persists, let me know if there is an error message when you print from your phone with the ethernet cable connected to the printer.

Keep me posted.
