I have the hp laserjet pro cm1415fnw. It is about 2 years old and I would say we only print about 15 pages a day on it.
1.)Just recently we started having issues receiving faxes. It will ring like a fax is coming in and then print a page that says "Fax Confirmation" and under the results section, it says "No Fax Detected". What does this mean? This does not happen all of the time, but I would say we are currently only receiving 10% of our faxes.
2.)Every morning the first one or two pages we print turn out to be almost all black.
3.)Towards the end of every day our printer starts whining and screaming at us very loudly every time we use it like it needs to be greased up, but then the next morning it is quiet.
Please Help!

Hello, The fax receive issue can be influenced by several conditions. Is the printer/fax on a dedicated line, PBX or is your provider a voice over IP connection? You mention that you receive about 10% of the faxes, do the outgoing faxes reach their destination-any way to confirm?
Can you provide me the printers firmware, which can be found on the configuration page. The issue about almost balck pages at the beginning of the day seems odd. Is this related to printing and not fax?

The 'no fax detected' message is generated when the receiving device answers an incoming phone call but does not detect any device information from the sending machine. This will occur if someone calls your fax machine from a voice line. Could be a wrong number, tele-marketing phone call, etc. If you think this is a valid incoming fax call, one change to make is to set the fax speed setting from Fast which is the default to medium. In fast mode a v.8 startup procedure is used, in medium or slow mode a v.29 startup procedure is used. Fax speed is in setup menu, fax setup, advanced settings, and then arrow down to the last entry.

I'm not completely sure if the fax issue is related to me or two of my vendors. I seam to be able to receive and send faxes to all but the main 2 people I fax to.
The black page issue started out just printing black lines across the first one or two pages we print, but as the days have gone by the lines have gotten thicker and think to where it is printing an almost completely black page. This does it with faxes and pages we print depending on which comes first in the morning.

Hi, The black lines or mostly black page is not a common printing result. What manufactured toner cartridges are you using? Are they remanufactured, refilled, or HP genuine manufatured? 3rd party toner cartridges are not tested by HP and their performace is not guaranteed. Were you able to print the configuration page, so I can review the printers current firmware version?

llo, Thanks for the firmware version reply. What computer operating system are you running? The current FW on HP.Com is 20120719. It will provide many benefits to print quality, scan, copy fax improvements. I do not have a list of all improvements as the fw has rolled a few times in the last two years.

Full Circle 1,
Sorry, but this is really interesting. Some of the predecessor products had a problem that sounds very similar, but that was "theoretically" fixed before this engine. It also, once it started printing all black (or all of any other color) would stay that way. It would scream loudly while getting to this condition. Could you respond back with the supplies status on the current cartridges - pages printed with this supply, etc. which can be found in reports, supplies status on the menu. A scan of one of the black pages would also be very helpful.
I think this is a different problem from the fax issue, which sounds like a memory problem. There are suggestions on HP.com that will show you how to clear the fax memory so that incoming faxes may then be printed. This is just a guess.
Please let me know about the black pages - have you replaced the black cartridge lately, are the cartridges original HP or non-HP replacements? Please give us some more information. Dovid

FullCircle1,
“Curiouser and curiouser!” Cried Alice (she was so much surprised, that for the moment she quite forgot how to speak good English).”
Thanks for sending the image, you now have an entire group of engineers at HP wondering what is going on. I have a couple of questions that would help us out (which will hopefully then help you!). Can you measure the spacing between the lines on the image that you sent in the JPG? The more accurate the better, since spacings on the image correspond to rollers or devices in the engine. Do you see hints of any color other than black on the pages that look black?
Also I have a question on basic usage. The pages printed on the black cartridge you noted at 1963 and you installed it on Aug 13, so you may have printed on average over 60 pages a day since the install. Can you more clearly describe your printer usage - mono pages versus color pages, some days 15 - some days 150 pages, etc. Did the squealing near the end of the day start right after install or later in the month of usage? Did the black pages every morning start right after install or have they been occurring more recently. Again please confirm that during the squealing at the end of the day, the pages are "normal" when they come out - not black again.
HP lists the black cartridge at 2000 ISO (special coverage) pages, then in the pages remaining sort of gives the user credit for using less toner per page, so you having printed 1963 pages with about 800 remaining means that many of your pages are mostly what we would call low coverage - that means mostly text pages and faxes and not many pictures. Is this an accurate description of your usage - many of your pages have not much toner on them?
Again thanks for using the forum and we really want to get to the bottom of this, so please continue the conversation. Dovid
