I have a new printer. When I print a long document and it runs out of paper, reload the paper and it begins to print at the beginning of the document instead of where it stopped. I wasted a lot of paper the first time this happened. I tried the advanced setting "paper out action:cancel" and it made no difference.  I think I can go into the queue and cancel the print job and then start again on the page I want, but that is a lot of trouble. Isn't there a setting that will prevent the job from starting all over again? HP support told me to update the firmware, which I did. But the new firmware version is older than the one that I  had when I bought the printer. I hope this is not a problem.

Let's try a power reset on the printer

 

1.Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

2. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor and run the program. It will automatically diagnose and fix any printer issues.
