The display is going out.  You might disassemble and see if a cable or connector is not making good contact.  if several years old it may need to be replaced.

 

 

A parts list is here but you should use the printer serial number to get an exact list

 

Note that the problem could be the LCD itself or the PCB control board the LCD is connected to.
