LaserJet M1319f Multifunction
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Dell computer that I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (Enterprise).  The computer has a LaserJet M1319f MFP attached to it, When that printer is my default printer, the CPU goes high and my office products (excel, word, outlook) become unresponsive. If I change the default printer to another printer everything is fine. If I print a document and select the 1319, the cpu goes high and the programs are unresponsive. I can eventually get into the print menu again and select a different printer and then everything goes back to normal.

I am running the 5.0.1.64861 drivers and the 20120302 firmware. I downloaded and ran the print and scan doctor, but it did not find any issues.

Has anyone seen this behavior or have any suggestions?

Thanks, Eric

Hello, @EricLogsdon

Thanks for the update! I would like to jump in with a suggestion 🙂

Going through your post, it looks like an issue with the driver compatibility. Let's try a clean install to fix this issue. Here are the steps:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP LaserJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
  • Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
  • Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer”  – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
  • Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
  • Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (there is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Open run again, type “%temp%” and press enter to get the temporary files. Delete all the files here. Skip the items which cannot be deleted.
  • Now restart your computer again.
  • Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
  • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
  • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
  • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
  • Click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL22550/Im-61751-4/ljM1319-hb-pnp-win64-en.exe and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable only when prompted.

Hi! @EricLogsdon, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!

I understand when your printer is connected to PC CPU goes high.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Please try the steps mentioned below.

right click on the printer (in devices and printers).
and select printer preferences.
then select ports.
and uncheck "enable bidirectional support
Also, Go to start and type msconfig.exe and hit enter.
Go to services tab and select hide all Microsoft services.
Uncheck the applications which you don't use frequently, also go startup tab select task manager, disable the applications which you don't want to use during the startup.
Click apply restart your PC and check if it helps.

If the issue still persists, Please uninstall the printer software from your PC and install the latest driver.Link to install the full feature printer software.

I'll keep an eye out for your response.

I hope you have a great day! 🙂

System changes: I did an upgrade of the system from Windows 7 Enterprise to Windows 10 Enterprise (both 64-bit). I updated the printer drivers as part of that upgrade. No other software or hardware changes were made.

I un-checked the bi-directional setting for the printer. No change in behavior.

I disabled un-necessary startup programs (although when not using the printer the CPU utilization is low (<10%)).

I uninstalled the printer driver and installed the current driver for the printer (which is the one I had installed during the upgrade process). No change in behavior.

I am open to more suggestions. When using the printer, taks manager shows "Spooler subsystem app", "Print driver host for applications" and the application she is printing from with high CPU utilization in order form highes to lowest.

Simply selecting the printer in Excel or Word (Office 2013) causes this behaviour, the actual print button to be clicked. Selecting another printer causes the system to go back to normal. Adobe reader also shows the same behavior.

Thanks again.
