I just purchased a Color LaserJet Pro M252dw printer and installed it yesterday. The initial configuration I chose was connecting the printer by cable to a USB port on my Windows 10 PC. There is only one other PC in my house that may want to access the printer, and I can accomplish that by sharing the printer on my home network. However, it might be nice to add wireless capability to the printer so it can be accessed by smartphones and tablets. In order to do that, do I need to remove the direct connection of the printer to my PC, or can I just add wireless access?

Hi @JLSchutt,
Good day. May the forums welcome you! 🙂 It is a great location to find resolutions.
I reviewed the post about connecting your new printer to the wireless network while retaining your USB connection. I’ll be more than happy to assist you here. 🙂
At the outset, you’ve diagnosed the issue perfectly and performed great analysis of the situation before posting the query on HP forums.
Excellent job on that score. Kudos to you. It is always a privilege to work with technically savvy customers.
I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. We value your relationship with HP and wish to serve you better. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.
- Do you need both the USB and wireless setup of the printer?
- If so the good news is you could have both. Please follow step 2 in this links and it should help you to setup the printer on a wireless network.
Link 2: User guide for printer: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04475955 Please refer to pages 94-96 for resolving wireless setup issues.
- This will add the printer to the same network. The tablets and cell phones should be connected to the same network also.
- Also, you may need to download and install an app on the cell phones and tablets to print from them depending on the operating system of the cell phone and tablet.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂
