We have a few HP printers that I see in our firewall analyzer that are sending data to the internet every few minutes...  one printer sends about 3mb the other sends about 1mb.    ?????????  they use tcp port 5222.. they also receive a few mb every time they send!    **bleep**!    how can I stop this?   they are talkign to IP: 15.72.162.52

 

HP, please help.

That IP address appears to be an HP address. Possible causes:

1. Are you using HP instank ink

2. Have you signed up to provide anonymous print data to HP

3. Are you under some sort of monitoring contract with HP.

4. Do you have automatic update services turned on.

1. Are you using HP instank ink - I don't think so (is that a service that auto sends you ink,.. then no.)

2. Have you signed up to provide anonymous print data to HP (probably yes, but 3mb ?!?!)

3. Are you under some sort of monitoring contract with HP. no.

4. Do you have automatic update services turned on. Yes, but again, 3mb ?  these transfers should be very small.  

 

it's every 4 minutes...  a few mb of data.  it's kind of abusive..   I will look at printer and start turning off features.
