HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had this printer for several years and suddenly a problem appeared a few weeks ago (no change to PC; no change to Wi Fi; no change to Printer).

When I print, after a few minutes I see a message "error printing" and the job does not get printed.

I need to switch off and then ON again the printer for it to print.

It is becoming a bot annoying and I have no clue where the problem can be.

I ran HP Print Dr and all is well!!

HP Diagnostics indicates NO update available.

Any suggestion? Anyone with the same problem?

Thanks

Hi @Jgl_51

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Restart the Wireless router, the printer, and the PC.

Check if the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4GHz or 5GHz.

Clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Check the type of port that the printer driver is using for communication. Windows 10 has a habit of using a WSD port and experience is that these do not track printer status very well, especially if the printer goes to sleep the computer "forgets" the printer is there. When you restart the status gets refreshed. You can check this, on your computer go to Control Panel>Devices and Printers and right click the icon for your printer and from the dropdown menu select "printer properties" and then click the port tab and find the port with the checkmark. If the port is labelled WSD-XXXXXXX you are going to want to change this to a Standard TCP/P port. Click new port, new port type, select Standard TCP/IP and use the IP address from the printer when Windows asks for an address for the port.
