P1606dn laserjet printer suddenly started printing the second page upside down (duplex). Cannot locate "select long/short edge"? What could have happened?

Hi @c-k,
Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with printing. I will be delighted to assist you here.:)
For better clarity, and to assist you correctly, I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this happen after a software or Windows update?
- Which app are you trying to print from?
- Did you check by printing from different apps like MS Word and Adobe reader?
For now please try these steps:
Uninstall and reinstall the printer software by following these steps:
- Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
- Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
- Click on print server properties.
- You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
- Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
- Restart the PC.
- Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
- Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
- It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
- If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
- Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
- Restart the PC again.
Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2AcfSHD and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
- This should fix the issue for you.
-
Otherwise, perform all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2AcfTvb to troubleshoot print quality issues.
Replace cartridges (toners) and check again. This might fix the issue as long as the printer has no hardware issues.
- Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient,.Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

Hi @c-k,
I reviewed the post. Thanks for replying. You've done great here by displaying excellent commitment and immense patience to try and resolve the issue. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
Did you perform the steps mentioned in my previous post? If it is not done, please perform these steps to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers and it should fix the issue for you.
- That should do the trick for you.
- Also, try these steps if the issue continues:
- Try printing from apps like Adobe and MS Word and check if it prints correctly.
- If it does then the issue is not with the printer but the Browser that you are currently using.
- Reset the Browser and this should fix the issue.
- Otherwise use a different Browser like Firefox or Chrome if you are using one of these, then use Micorosft Edge and check if the issue gets resolved.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hi @c-k,
Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.
It looks like you were interacting with @DavidSMP, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.
This issue could occur if the duplex settings are not correct.
I suggest that you follow the steps in the link: How to Print on Both Sides of the Paper (Windows) (Duplexing)
Let me know if this works.
You have a good day ahead.

Tried your suggestion. Video is different than page to choose 2-sided printing for my printer. One thing I did notice however, is that if I try to print a document of 1 page length the printer only prints that 1 page. Where in the past, the printer would grab the sheet and process it again to print a 2nd page. Of course, it would not print and you would get a single sheet with single-side printing. Hope that made sense?

Hi @c-k,
I read the post. Thanks for posting. I understand that the issue still has not been fixed. I was away for my weekend and hence could not reply immediately. Please perform these steps.
If you have a different computer that has windows installed on it, please install the printer on a different computer and check if it prints correctly. This is to isolate the issue between this current computer and the printer.
If it prints correctly on a different computer, then this computer's operating system is the culprit. Please perform a push button reset of Microsoft Windows 10 from this link: http://hp.care/2BnHCZ0;This does not cause data loss if the correct options are selected correctly.
Then download the full feature software from the HP support site from the link given in my earlier post and install it on your computer. This should do the trick for you.
Please keep me posted. Thanks and have a fantastic week ahead. 🙂
