Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I don't need the color printing any more with this printer.  So, I just want to know if I can just by a black cartridge and leave the remaining color cartridges as they are.   So I will be using this printer as a monochrome printer.  Will that work?  Thank you.

Hello, @jccho123 - Hope you are well!

Thank you for reaching out to the HP support forums, I would like to help 🙂

I understand that you would like to print using the black ink only with your LaserJet printer.

You cannot operate the printer if the color cartridges are completely empty. You can print while the cartridges are low on ink, but the printer will be damaged while printing when the cartridges are depleted.

You can change the print settings to use only the black ink, but if your color cartridges are already depleted, you may be asked to replace the color cartridges to continue printing.

Alternatively, try changing the printing preferences to use the black ink only:

  • Go to Control Panel – Devices andPrinterss – Give a right click on LaserJet and select printing preferences.
  • In the pop-up window, click on Print quality / Layout tab and enable the black & white printing / print in grayscale.
  • Also, check under “Advanced” button - check for printing in grayscale option. Make sure it is turned on.

Let me know if that helps. Good luck!

Cheers 🙂

This screen option does not work for me.  How do you connect with HP directly?
