HP OMEN Notebook PC 15
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I just bought an HP OMEM 256GB/8Gig Model, with NVidea 860 card, the fan noise level is way above the normal acceptable level, i'm not even using the NVidea card, only the basic graphic card but still very noticable fan noise.  I did go into BiOS as suggested and turned off "Fan is always on".   I'm not pressing FN+F to power on the FAN, and what's strange in my case is that when i put the laptop into sleep and open again the fan really noise for 5 second, like it is doing something intensive, then the FAN noise reduces but still noticable on the left hand side.

I have a Samsung Notebook 6 years old, side by side, and i can't hear any noise, while this new high spec Omen has this annoying fan noise.   Overall the PC looks nice, but if I can't fix the noise level i might have to return it.  I really want to make this work, so any support or suggestion is appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi there @Pistisan

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.

I understand that you are having noisier than expected performance mostly coming from the cooling fan. I am happy to assist with this.

As it is a brand new machine, you could call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

Or if you prefer to work from the forums, then I would start with checking your system for any debris. It is quite possible that some of the packing material may have fallen into the fan assembly, and is the cause of the noise.

Cleaning your Notebook PC

Let me know if this helps at all.

Hi, i have cleaned the the fan but still the same.  I have also encountered and even stranger thing...when i press the FN+F key the FAN turns to MAX as it is adverstised, however, when i press it once more to turn if off, it doesn't do it.

I have went into the special configuration settings in Omen, where you change the color of the keyboard etc, and there i saw three options (low, medium, max) or something along those options, but the selection mark (radio button) was flickering between the low and high values and i couldn't stop it.  I waited a minute, loged off and was about to restart the PC when the FAN started to go back to normal levels.    Any idea why is this happening and why i can't use the FN+F key to turn off the fan, only turn on function worked.

How did you clean the fan ? Did you take off the rubber thing that cannot be replaced?
