HP Omen Notebook
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

When I bought this notebook the charger it came with did not fit the charger port so I ordered a new one which matched the product number of the notebook so I  fairly sure it is the right one. My problem is that when the HP Smart Adapter message comes up when I open up my notebook my performance is heavily decreased and in the bottom right the battery icon says "plugged in not charging". The HP SMart Adapter message comes up always if i restart my notebook and it goes anyway at random intervals. And my notebook will only charge when on sleep mode or turned off.

When the HP Smart Dapter message does not appear everything is fine and performance is great. And the battery icon in the bottom left stays at 100% and if it drops below that for any reason it will charge back.

Since I usually have my notebook on my desk I rarely have it on my bed, but when I have it on my bed sometimes the HP Smart Adapter message stops appearing which makes me think its something to do with the angle of the charger on my desk compared to when it is on my bed

First, thanks for replying. Second, how would I tell if the adapter is genuine. And I purchased it through a local computer shop so I dont know where they got it from

Hi@juan_richards,

Thanks for the reply.

The genuine adaptor will have an HP Part number tag.

Hope it helps.

Sorry for the delay.

Where would I find the HP part number tag on the adapter

Hi@juan_richards

Thanks for the reply.

When you look at the black box, it will have a bar code with indications stating “Replace with HP Spare” or “HP part No.”

Or you can call our phone support directly and they should be able to assist you in getting the right adaptor for the PC.

Sorry for not replying, I didn't realise you had replied previously.
