Hi all,

 

I have a p6-2302el pre-made Desktop Pc and i decided to update my GPU.

 

I have read that there are some compatibility problems, especially on the boot, between the Motherboard: joshua-h61-uatx and some Nvidia's GPUs (like 960).

 

I would like to buy a Nvidia GTX 1060, and I'm going to buy a new power supply (700W) which is proper for my new GPU.

 

The question is: can I buy this graphic card without having compatibility problems? I'm running Windows 10 64-bit as OS and I want to replace only older graphic card and power supply.

@Alf9ns9, welcome to the forum.

 

The GTX 1060 requires a PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot for the video card.  Your motherboard only has a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot.  Therefore, it is not compatible.

I would like to correct you on that. 3.0 is backwards compatible with 2.0. Which would work fine. But, that pc is to old and would not work with the card any ways. Even if you upgraded the power supply from the factory 300w.

Your particular model PC has a HP version 8 BIOS with posted updates. Most of the the newer graphics graphics will work with two caveats: Measure to make sure that the graphics card will fit and install a power supply with the wattage recommendation provided by the graphics card manufacturer.  The NVIDIA GTX 1060 is 120 to 150 watt graphics card.
