Hey Erico

I'm working on Compaq Presario V6000 (it's printed on the front upper corner of the screen) on the back label is written V6500 and below the V6500 is symbol V6642EM.I really wish to upgrade my memory from 2GB to 4 or even 8 GB if it's possible and my hard drive from 160 GB to 500GB or 1TB. Can u help me and tell me is it possible and what parts i should use?? I was using the PNY MEMORY CONFIGURATOR but there wasn't my model.

hi erico,

I have a DV7-2173CL that has a P7350 in it, going by the manual and specs this laptop will take up to a Q9100, so I got a Q9100 and put it in and it doesn't work, it boots then shuts down then starts again with all lights on and flashing caps lock and num lock ?? Does this laptop not support Quad Cores? Even though it states it in the manual 😞

Thanks

Try a hard reset.

remove battery and unplug the ac power adapter
press and hold the power button for about thirty seconds.
replace the battery and press the power button

The CPU is supported IAW the manual and specs just as you stated.

You might want to consider reinstalling the original processor and updating the BIOS.

There are updates within the current version for AHCI that might cure the problem you are facing.

erico

Thanks erico, I have the latest BIOS Installed F.41 A, I have put the P7350 back in it and it's working as usual, should I try maybe a BIOS from a Quad Core DV7 ?

EDIT: Well they have the exact same BIOS .. 😞

Yep, sorry.I'd love to do that but it's not going through for some reason...I have to paste the .txt version instead 😞

Did you try the hard reset? that sometimes cures the no display problem.

Are you certain that the Quad Core you bought has the same specs?   (the FSB and TDP).

erico

ok,so I'll stick to your list though.I'll probably go for the T9300...

Let me know if you have a specific manual with procedures.

I'll start by upgrading to 2*2GB RAM.Hope RAM + proc update will be enough (despite my current integrated 128MB Nvidia 8400) to improve frame rate as that's what matter in gaming...

Here is a link to the Maintenence and service manual.

In the manual you will also see the Illustrated parts list which includes compatible processors.

erico

No have not tried the hard reset, I don't want to pull it all apart just yet.

Well the Quad I got was a Q9100 with FSB 1066 and TDP of 45, original CPU has FSB 1066 and TDP of 25 😞

Should the TDP really matter that much?

Thx! It is a dv7 manual but my computer is a dv2699.Do you think it will fit?
