Thanks 😉

So 320GB HDD and 4GB RAM is the only option...

Always something 😉

Do a search here in the forum and on Google or your favorite search engine with your Laptop model and  desired RAM configuration as the key words. You might find that someone has gone beyond the recommended upgrade options with success.

I have a HP dv6308nr my harddrive died and I need to replace it.  I would like to upgrade to a 250-320gig 7200rpm if that would work in my laptop. if not can you tell me what I can upgrade to.  HP told me that the best I can do is 200gig and 5400rpm.  just keeping them honest.I am new to this and not sure what I am doing. so I am seeking all the help I can.

thanks.

Hi,

I have a compaq presario c307nr.  I have been trying to upgrade my cpu form the T1350 that it came with to a T2350 duo core.  When installed the comuter will not boot,  power light just flashes.  It is the same socket and spec wise almost the same chip other that the T2350 is duo core.  I have the I945gm chip set that will handle it. the motherboard is 30c6 which can handle duo core cpus.  Just not sure about the T2350. I am wondering if it is the bios that is causing the problem.  Bios version F.24.  Any Ideas would be great.

  Thanks,

     Jeff

In regards to this solution stated in your FAQ:

On some older laptops it will be required that you go in to the BIOS on

start up (normally it is the F10 key) and set the amount of newly installed

memory to the new actual value. Newer laptops will generally auto configure the

installed RAM.

It is highly recommended that you purchase memory only from a major memory maker

(HP,Kingston,Crucial,Corsair,OCZ,Geil...etc) that is guaranteed by them to work in your laptop.

Generic no-name brands are a bit of a gamble. You could roll a seven or snake eyes.

Is this done before or after the new memory is installed

You BIOS has support for the  Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile Processor T5500 and the Intel Centrino Solo T1350 processor - 1.86GHz, 512MB cache, 533FSB

I see no other processors listed as compatible.

That is a pretty big jump, would be quite the improvement I think.  I know the chip set will support it.  But will the board be able to?

The processors that I listed are supported by the motherboard and BIOS per HP documents. Which processor is presently installed in yours?

The listed system board is for both models of your laptop...so the duo core should work IAW the manual
