I have

p/n: fm414ea
It was stated in HP dv5 manual that the following processors are compatible with my laptop:
AMD Turion™ Ultra Dual-Core 35W ZM-86 2.40-GHz with 2-MB L2 cacheAMD Turion Ultra Dual-Core 35W ZM-82 2.20-GHz, with 2-MB L2 cacheAMD Turion Ultra Dual-Core 35W ZM-80 2.10-GHz, with 2-MB L2 cacheAMD Turion Dual-Core 35W RM-70 2.00-GHz with 1-MB L2 cacheAMD Athlon™ X2 Dual-Core 35W QL-60 1.90-GHz with 1-MB L2 cache <--- This is now installed.I am going to upgrade the QL-60 to QL-62 and I am just wondering is it going to work? The processor cost me nothing, but I would like to know is the procedure safe and possible to do. I have strong feeling that it will work.
I wonder why HP don't officially support all the other processors from the same catagory Wikipedia - Turion X2 / Turion X2 Ultra - "Lion" 65 nm
"I am going to upgrade the QL-60(1.9 Ghz) to QL-62 (2.0 Ghz) and I am just wondering is it going to work?"
I wouldn't go through the teardown process because of the lack of any significant performance increase. The upgrade fails my risk versus benefit test. A meager 100 mhz boost is truly not worth the effort or the risk.
"but I would like to know is the procedure safe and possible to do." It is safe if you know what you are doing. Successfully upgrading the CPU won't break your laptop. It might not work because of a lack of BIOS support for that particular CPU.
At the end of the day it is as simple as the fact that the choice to try the upgrade is yours.

erico

@kam124 wrote:guys....yet another upgrade question...
ive got a dv6-1007tx
Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4 GHz
PM45 motherboard
so i went to the hp website to check compatible processors and narrowed down my options to....
QX9300...
Q9100...
I really need to go quad cause i use video editing/converting programs and with my current processor my cpu is always maxed out at 100%...
im leaning to the Q9100 at the moment...its about half the price ($280 on ebay) of the QX9300 ($520 on ebay)...
does anyone know if there is a significant difference between them, besides the .26GHz? i have been hearing that some processors are over-clockable and some arent...but as yet i have no real idea about over-clocking...i will have to look into it...
can anyone tell me what the negative aspects are of performing the upgrade that i am suggesting? I see no issues with it at all.
will overheating be a problem? No. Just use a good thermal interface material ( OCZ Freeze or AS5)
life span? Nope.
anything else like that?
any help/advice would be much appreciated... Considering the usage you have planned I would suggest bumping up the memory (you didn't state how much is onboard) If you can afford it...upgrading to an SSD hard drive is definitely worthwhile.

Actually, the specs you provided state that the QL-62 does consume less power@ @15.8 Watts than the QL-60 @18.3 Watts. The specs state that the comparison is during minimum performance state for both processors.
Wattage (Watts) can be more easily understood as heat. An incandescandant light bulb rated at 100 watts can be compared to a 60 watt bulb. One can feel the difference in the heat radiated from the bulb with a bare hand.
"How is it possible that QL-62 has lower TDP than QL-60? Does this mean that QL-62 consumes less power and heat vs. QL-60?" It is possible by design. the QL-62 has a faster internal clock than the QL-60 processor does.

@wlcummings wrote:I just took a chance to replace the keyboard on my DV6 laptop after reading this post. Downloaded the PDF manual and printed the pages about replacing the keyboard. Everything went fine except it took a while to interpret the photos and the pointers to the individual screws. Wound up taking a couple of wrong screws out. The only improvement to the manual would be clearer pictures or even cad drawings to show the location of the screws more accurately.
If other manufacturers do not supply this level of manual then I would not consider buying their computers. That manual saved me $200 the cost of labor to replace the keyboard.
We have CAD experts in house and would consider a contract to redraw all your manuals photos to depict accurate screw locations.
Good Work.
Hi,
It just requires a bit of organization on your part when you remove the screws. I use plastic trays. The service and maintenence manuals are meant to be reference material for technicians who do not require the added explanation. Good luck on the contract. 🙂 This is a consumer to consumer forum and no one here does contracts for HP.

Hello,
I have an HP G60-519WM, p/n: VM083UA and would like to upgrade the processor to a core 2 duo if possible. I have attached a CPU-Z report of my system. Also, on the report I noticed in the max capacity field, under DMI Physical Memory Array, it has a value of 8192 MBytes. Does this mean that the system is capable of handling 8 Gig of memory? Finally, I have looked for a maintenance or service manual for my computer and have not been able to find one. Do you know if one exists and where I can download it?
Thank You.

This is a question for Erico or an HP moderator.
I've been trying to find out information about my tx2120us in comparison to the tx2500 and tx2 series. I would like to upgrade and get another computer. I love my tx2120us, but I could use a brighter screen and support for Windows 7, and it appears my only choice here is to buy another tablet. (The new tm series looks fine, but I'd prefer an i5 and i7 option for a more powerful system)
There does not seem to be a maintenance manual available for the tx2120, while there are manuals available for both the tx2500 and tx2.
What confusion was caused by naming a new system a tx2 when you already had a tx2000 model?
The tx2000 and tx2500 use a Wacom tablet, but the tx2 uses a different brand. The replacement styluses for the tx2120 and tx2500 are harder to find and cost more. I made the mistake of getting a less expensive tx2 pen (it is the same form factor???), but doesn't work correctly in my tx2120 and I've ordered the correct one from HP. HP chat and phone support couldn't even tell me which model was newer, the tx2500 or the tx2 and couldn't tell me whether either unit had an LED backlit Brightview screen. (I think the specs are wrong on one of them, because they are inconsistent, but I can't verify that. One place it says CCFL and another place says LED in the specs.)
Very confusing, not just for me a user, but for the HP support department. I don't understand why so many different laptop/tablet models competing with each other. Wouldn't a longer production run with a few options be more productive than multiple production runs with similar, but incompatible models. I really think HP is confused here and not doing as good as they could be doing. JMHO. And don't get me started on the locked down BIOSes without options! I love HP, I just wish they were more consistent, more innovative, quicker to market, and more stable; all at the same time. Oh, well!
Thanks,

Hi. I may have one more to add. The CPU in the HP dv9000 line of computers is a intel 2.2Ghz, 800 Mhz fsb, duo T7500 Socket 47.
I believe a drop in replacement, with no mods what so ever is the Intel core 2 duo T7800 2.6Ghz, 800 Mhz fsb.
Here is Intels web site for the T7500:
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=29761
and here is the intel web site for the T7800:
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=31729
As you can see the voltage and all other parameters are the same - just a faster CPU. Worse case, it might generate more heat. If you are worried about this. Cut a hole in the bottom of your laptop, directly below the CPU and install a fan covering. Of, if you wish, a small fan. This is what I did for the GPU. Sure lowered my internal temps.
I just ordered a T7800 but not installed it yet. It seems like a simple upgrade. Any thoughts from the many smarter folks here on how this might play out? Am I missing anything (warranty expired, that is why I cut a hole in the bottom of the dv9050) ??
Thoughts, comments welcome.
thank you
jack
