I made RAM upgrade earlier and now i have 8 gb PC3-10600(1333-MHz), now i am considering CPU upgrade option.
From Maintenance and Service Guide I understand that for my DV6-3125er these processors can give improvement in performance:
Intel Core i7-840QM processor with 1.86 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.2 GHz, Quad 45 W
Intel Core i7-820QM processor with 1.73 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.06GHz, Quad 45 W
Intel Core i7-740QM processor with 1.73 GHz, SC turbo up to 2.93 GHz, Quad 45 W
Intel Core i7-720QM processor with 1.6 GHz, SC turbo up to 2.8 GHz, Quad 45 W
Intel Core i5-580M processor with 2.66 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.33 GHz, Dual 35 W
Intel Core i5-560M processor with 2.66 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.33 GHz, Dual 35 W
Intel Core i5-540M processor with 2.53 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.06 GHz, Dual 35 W
Intel Core i5-520M processor with 2.4 GHz, SC turbo up to 2.93 GHz, Dual 35 W
Intel Core i5-480M processor with 2.66 GHz, SC turbo up to 2.93 GHz, Dual 35 W
As I understand it is very difficult to change GPU and in my case it can give very small improvement (i have ATI 5650, best i can fit is 6550).
Am i right? It isn't enough of an improvement to be worth the change. Take a look ate the reviews at the links I provided above. I wouldn't sink that kind of investment into the notebook. I would buy an HP Omen with an SSD.
Is there any serious problem with overheating if I switch from 35W to 45W processor? No. Just make certain that the specs on the one you buy matches what is found in HP PartSurfer for optional PCIe graphics modules.
I saw number near screws holding heatsink at motherboard. Should I use this numbers to screw/unscrew it in specific order? No. Organize the screws on a piece of tape or take digital photos that show where they go. I suggest that you develope your own method of organizing the screws when they are removed for easy reassembly.
If i have 6-cell battery can i use new 9-cell ? Yes. Just be aware that the 9-cell battery protrudes from the bottom. The notebook won't be flat on the bottom anymore.
Thank you

@puppyloveny wrote:Yup I am about to try again. I don't recall an option to change a date - what is the significance of this? It appears to make a difference ibetween having a succussfule recovery or not.. Also load BIOS defaults.
What if I just de select the recovery partition alltogether and just leave the other 3 boxes checked? That is your choice. I wouldn't do it until I had a recovery flashdrive in hand.
I'm getting a USB recovery stick from HP so I assume I can just use that and don't need an internal recovery partition anyway? That is true. It works for me, but it is nice to have the recovery manager available on the hard disk.
Thanks!

And if i could install an ssd You can do that and get a tremendous performance boost. Use the SATA variety. It does not matter if it is Sata150/SATA300 or SATA600. SATA is a downwardly compatible specification
You can add
AMD A-10 CPU upgrades

The AMD A10-5750M is actually called an APU instead of a CPU. It has integrated graphics.
You can use them seperately.
The AMD Radeon HD 8670M adapter I was referring to is a discrete graphics adapter.

@Tri1stan wrote:By any chance can i change the cpu into a intel?
No. That would require changing the complete systemboard, so it is not viable. It would also require magic.
A Systemboard must have a chipset that is compatible with the CPU and vice versa.
The Intel and AMD CPUs have different socket types.
In other words, you can't fit a square peg into a round hole. 😉
