What about the RM-72 model? Would that one fit?

TMRM72DAM22GG

Thanks 🙂

It is also not compatible. Just look at the list I posted a few replies back. All of those processors have BIOS support. Installing anything other than listed processors is just a financial risk.

Arh, that's too bad... So you're 100% sure, it will now be supported? Not with the latest BIOS either?

I've tried searching the forum and haven't found my exact situation.

I'm looking to upgrade my laptop from the current i3 processor to an i7 and I was wondering if it's possible, or, if the motherboard isn't compatible.

I've heard everything from a flat out "no" to "it depends (on a lot of different factors)."

I'd like to get a definitive answer one way or another, preferably from a tech or someone who's already tried it.

Thanks so much for any help you can provide since it's near impossible to get any kind help directly from HP.

Unfortunately HP has not provided a Service and Maintenence guide for this model. I am not able to give you an answer on this one. Thanks for providing the information.

Thanks anyway. I thought I was the only one that couldn't find anything about this.

Do you know if there's anywhere else I might be able to find the answer?

Hi all,

I had review most of the model discussing here but could not find mine.

I have Presario R3430US, PR452UA, with installed processor Pentium 4 DT, 2.80GHz, socket 478, L2 - 1MB, FSB 533MHz.

I want to replace it with newer model, dual core, with less comsumption as existing generates too much temperature.

Using EVEREST program, temperature is staying at about 70 degrees Celsius. And more.

I had online chat assistance with HP but could not advise me which processor I can use for upgrade.

On INTEL web site I also do not find enough information.

COMPAQ/HP web site did not provide Maintenance and Service Manual/Guide for this model (as it was stated for some of the models) and I cannot find compatible processors.

Can someone help me?

I have, unfortunately, bad news for you.

Socket 478 is the brick wall in your upgrade path.  If you want a dual-core processor you will have to upgrade to a newer generation notebook.

Socket 478 was phased out with the launch of socket 775.

There are no dual core CPUs for that socket.

The only upgrades for your socket will have to be in the Northwood Pentium 4 and Celeron family.

Many thanks, Erico!

By the way, is there a difference between socket 478, PGA478 and PPGA 478?

I had found also at INTEL website that model of the processor is Pentuim 4, model 511 which can be installed in sockets PGA478 and PLGA775. I had found also another processors which can be installed in sockets PGA478 and PPGA478.

Are you sure that only Pentuim 4 and Celeron with 90 nm lithography.

Hii there
I have a HP Presario C742TU laptop
PN= KG554PA
It has 120gb hard drive.
I've been searching all day trying to work out if I can upgrade the hard drive and if I can which one to buy.

I want 250gb (or 320gb if it will work) and basically I'd like the link to buy a compatable one online. I've been searching for them but once I find one that seems good, I'm not sure whether it will work. I don't want to spend money on it (plus shipping to NZ) and have it not work.

Thanks so much!

- Hannah
