It doesn't always happen, but sometimes when trying to print something from my Android I will have to open HP Smart to start the job.

Hi @Cheri12,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that when you try to print something from your Android phone, you have to open HP Smart to start the job.

Steps to enable direct printing:

  • Install the Plugin: Download and install the HP Print Service Plugin on your Android device.

  • Check Wi-Fi: Ensure both your phone and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

  • Use Native Print: In any app (like Photos or Chrome), select Print from the menu and choose your HP printer from the list, rather than opening HP Smart.

    Troubleshooting if it still fails:

  • Restart everything: Restart your phone and turn your printer off and on.

  • Clear Spooler: Go to phone settings > Apps > Show System Apps > Print Spooler > Clear Data/Cache.

  • Set up Plugin: Open the HP Print Service Plugin app and confirm it recognises your printer.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
