Hi @Gemmart
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for reaching out. I understand that since HP Smart was transitioned into the HP App, the application remains stuck on the loading screen, preventing you from printing or scanning. We appreciate the details you've shared.
To help restore normal functionality of the HP App on your Windows device, please try the following steps:
Confirm Windows is fully updated
- Go to Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates and install all available updates.
- Restart the PC after the updates complete.
Repair the HP App
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
- Locate HP App.
- Select the three dots next to it, then choose Advanced options.
- Click Repair and allow the process to complete.
- Launch the HP App and check whether it opens normally.
Reset the HP App
- If the issue continues, return to Advanced options for the HP App.
- Select Reset.
- Open the HP App again and sign in if prompted.
Verify Microsoft Store functionality
- Open the Microsoft Store.
- Check whether the Store opens normally and can download or update applications.
- From the Library section, select Get updates and install any available updates for the HP App.
Reinstall the HP App
- Remove the HP App from Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
- Restart the computer.
- Install the latest HP App from the Microsoft Store.
- Launch the application before reconnecting the printer.
Check Windows App Permissions
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > App Permissions.
- Ensure permissions such as Microphone, Camera (if scanning features require them), and Local Network access are enabled where applicable.
Test with a Clean App Launch
- Disconnect the printer from the computer.
- Open the HP App first and confirm it loads completely.
- Once the app opens successfully, add the printer again through the HP App.
If the HP App is still continuously loading after completing these steps, please share:
- Your Windows version (Windows 10 or Windows 11)
- Your HP printer model
- Whether the HP App opens to a blank screen, spinning circle, or displays any error message
This information will help us provide the next set of troubleshooting steps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you for the update. We understand that the HP App continues to remain on the loading screen even after completing all the previously suggested repair, reset, update, permission, and reinstall steps. We appreciate the time you have already spent working through those steps.
Since the HP App itself is not completing its launch, let us take a slightly different approach and refresh the printer software environment in Windows.
Remove the printer from Windows
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select your HP printer and choose Remove.
Remove the existing HP printer software
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Uninstall the HP App.
- If software specifically associated with your HP printer is listed, uninstall that as well.
- Restart the computer.
Reinstall through HP's printer setup page
- After Windows restarts, keep the printer powered on and connected to the same network as the computer if you are using Wi-Fi.
- Visit https://start.hp.com/.
- Search for your printer and follow the guided installation provided for it.
- HP confirms that the HP App installation also installs the drivers required to operate supported printers.
Set up the printer again
- Open the newly installed HP App.
- Select the plus (+) option to add a device.
- If the printer was previously configured, choose Choose an available printer, select the printer, and complete the prompts.
- For a Wi-Fi printer that is not detected, HP advises restoring the printer's Wi-Fi setup mode and adding it again through the HP App.
Check printing and scanning
- Once the printer has been added successfully, first try a simple print.
- Then open the printer in the HP App and select the appropriate Scan tile to test scanning. HP documents printer scanning directly through the HP App.
If the HP App still remains continuously loading before you can even add the printer, please let us know your exact HP printer model and whether you are using Windows 10 or Windows 11. With those two details, we can provide the appropriate HP software and driver path for that specific printer rather than repeating the troubleshooting you have already completed.
