The Datasheet indicates that USB charging is supported:
#6 Supports USB charging in OFF mode when connected to a 1A-minimum-charge-capable USB charging port.
The User Guide (Page 7) shows the USB port on the back and directs you to section "Charge the battery" (Chapter 2, Page 20).
- Purchase a USB cable that provides the correct end-points (connection tips) for your setup. For example, the one end should be the size / type of connector that matches the port in the printer (likely standard USB A-male), the other end should be the size / port type necessary to plug into the charging source.
- The cable should be at least of standard, good quality to provide the best service / life span.
- Heed the advice: The charging USB port must be able to supply a minimum of 1 ampere.

Not sure if you resolved your issue, if not try these basic steps first:
For charging by USB you can try the steps shared by Dragon-Fur
1. Shut down the printer, remove the battery
2. Use a standard USB cable (http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/v7-usb-20-cable---6ft) & Insert the battery
3. Insert this cable to your printer and plug in the other end in the USB adapter (Atleast 1A capacity)
4. The charging LED should turn ON (Orange) when the printer is charging.
5. Once the battery is fully charged, the LED will turn OFF.
