Trying to print from Android to printer but it will not print and I see a blue light flashing continuously on the printer. What does that mean?

Hi @Annie6500e,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out, and you're not alone in this! That blue light flashing on your HP DeskJet 6500e printer is trying to tell you something important, and I’ll help you decode it in the simplest way possible.

What the Flashing Blue Light Means

The blue light on your HP printer is the Wi-Fi status indicator. If it’s flashing continuously, it means:

🔹 Your printer is not connected to Wi-Fi.

This is why your Android device can’t send print jobs: the printer isn’t on the same network yet.

How to Fix It (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

  1. Press and hold the Wireless button (📶 symbol) on the printer for 5 seconds until the light starts blinking faster.
  2. Open the HP Smart app on your Android phone.
  3. Tap “+” to add a printer, and follow the prompts to connect it to your Wi-Fi network.

Make sure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.

Step 2: Restart Everything

  • Restart your Wi-Fi router.
  • Restart your printer.
  • Restart your Android phone.

This helps clear any stuck connections.

Step 3: Disable Wi-Fi Direct (If Active)

Sometimes the printer is in Wi-Fi Direct mode, which won’t work for regular network printing.

  • Press the Wi-Fi Direct button (if available) until the light turns off.
  • Reconnect using the HP app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
