DNS errors generally happen when there is a failure of your network to connect to the Internet (everything online that is outside of your home network).

Fixing this type of error on the printer might be possible though in general, DNS settings in the printer are not the source of connection problems.  It happens; losing DNS connection on the printer is just not common since the control for DNS is defined and handled in your network router (modem).

That said, you can adjust / assign / manage your DNS server connection for the printer using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).  The printer does need to be connected to your local network to manage the printer IP and DNS connections.

NOTE:

If your router is connected to the Internet without errors, there is generally no reason to manually assign the DNS for the printer.  The printer might simply use your network router (default gateway) as its DNS server;  the router handles providing devices the path out to the Internet.

DNS Issues - Network

KNOW that you have a DNS problem?

Correct / Update / Check your DNS server setup.  Try using Google free DNS, if desired.

Flush the computer's connection to the 'net (will not  help with Phone printing issues)

Open favorite browser, search for "flush dns"

Use the instructions that match your Operating System / situation

DNS Servers

Welcome to the DNS Server Database, here you will find a comprehensive list of the main DNS servers for various popular ISP's located around the world. This list will help you with finding the best DNS server to use for your internet connection which will result in fast DNS lookups.

If you do not have an ISP, or if you are having continuing connection issues, use Google Public DNS.

Not DNS?  - Could be Web Services

If the problem is more directly related to the printer..

The failure might be that Web Services has failed to connect the printer to the Internet.  Web Services controls much of what is necessary to both keep the connection open and to direct traffic of particular types (Scan-to-Email App, for example, and ePrint Service).

Open website:  HP Smart / HP Connected

Open category How to > Turning On Web Services  (Includes “Turn off Web Services” help)

Not Web Services?

There is good information here - read the document steps carefully to get the most out of what is suggested.

For example, consider a TCP/IP port connection.

Want to try the Print and Scan Doctor?

Try this version for a printer that cannot connect or acts like it is off the network:

At this posting, Version = V5.0.6

HPPSdr.exe
