HP Laserjet Pro

Hello,

I have an HP Laserjet Pro m254dw printer connected (wire) to a local network, there are no other devices connected to the router constantly (some users come and goes and connecting through WiFi).

I'm sending print jobs to the printers using Google Cloud Print, the issue we experience is lost of communication whenever the printer goes to sleep mode or auto off (energysaver).

I tried to disable the sleep mode from the Energy settings but can only extend the time until it goes into sleep mode.

Restart to the printer wakes it up again and it ready to receive print jobs again.

My questing is: is there a way to competently disable every saving energy mode? can I configure the printer to be alive constantly?

Thanks in advanced

Oren

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

Please ensure the printer has the latest Firmware. Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Next assign a Manual IP Address and check if that helps

1) Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address or print a Network Configuration Page
2) Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
3) Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
4) Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
5) Click Manual IP
6) If you see a Suggest a Manual IP Address button, click Manual IP address, and the Manual IP addresses are automatically filled out for you.
7) If your page does not have a button to suggest a manual IP address, type the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway using the numbers shown in the report you printed.

Try printing and let me know how it goes

Hi!

Thanks for your response!

We assume that the manual IP configuration will keep the port alive and the printer will stay 'awake'?

Thanks

Oren

Hi @Orentvila,

Thank you for replying.

The manual IP Configuration is assigned to make sure that the printer stays connected and does not go offline.

Hi!

thanks again for your response.

I've updated the printer with manual IP address as you described.

I'll be able to understand if it solved my problem after tracking the printer for a few days, to understand if it stopped going into sleep mode.

Will keep you updated.

Thanks

Oren

Thanks again for your response.

It seems that the printer still going into sleep mode after a while and after setting a manual IP address.

Is there another way to prevent the printer from going to sleep?

Is there a configuration file (XML etc..) that can be changed in order to keep the printer alive?

Thanks

Oren

Hi thanks again.

I familiar with those options in "Energy Settings".

Max time for "Sleep/Auto Off After Inactivity" is 1 hour.

Max time for "Shut Down After Inactivity" is 8 hours.

I have scenarios where the printer will not be in use more than a day, so those options in the 'Energy settings' aren't relevant for my needs.

Is there a way to completely disable Sleep/Auto Off & auto Shut Down???

Thanks

Oren

@Orentvila

You cannot disable Auto Sleep or Auto Shut Down completely since nowadays all printers are built keeping Energy Saving in mind and to eb environmental friendly. So you can only adjust the sleep time or shut down time but cannot disable sleep mode or auto off completely
