HP Laser 107w

I purchased this 107 w from a small discount retailer in Pattaya Thailand. I bought it exclusively to use with an Android phone. Seems to have a defect and cannot be set up to print on Wi-Fi Direct. I've only managed to get it working on an older Windows 7 laptop, not having a conventional wireless network, installing the necessary drivers using the enclosed CD-ROM. The printer fails to use the proper protocol for the SSID on rhe mobile phone. There is no [DIRECT] prefix in the device name unlike others demonstrated on YouTube which are successful in establishing a  Wi-Fi DIRECT connection for printing from a mobile device.

The printed network configuration sheet does state that Wi-Fi Direct is enabled and prints all supporting parameters.

  • Is there a HP software download to correct this situation or a manufacturer defect that not be remedied by software manipulation ???

When you run HP Smart app on your Android phone does the HP Smart recognize the wi-fi direct device?

<span;>Thanks for your advice and kind assistance.

<span;>The Smart app doesn't seem actively sense anything. It only offers a selection of two items to continue the process: Add New Printer or Add Printer ALREADY existing on the network.  Adding a new printer, then, renders two more selections: Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Nothing ever stated regarding Wi-Fi Direct, especially, in the context of a Peer-to-Peer Wi-Fi Direct connection: smartphone to wireless HP Laser printer.

In my opinion, the 107W owners manual is a complete failure. It fails to identify and follow discreet setup processes for the various scenarios. It's simply an overview combining esoteric jargon, from a variety of scenarios, without due process: only to confound.  Just a bewildering presentation of information to the layperson seeking to simply setup and print from their smartphone.

Maybe, they should give this English major writing the manual the opportunity to set up the printer, straight from the box, with only a smartphone with an active sim card and service provider.  If this was the case, know doubt, it would be a better manua

I've come to the conclusion that this this Asian market HP-107w printer is not compatible with Android. It is only visible to the phone but cannot connect either with Wi-Fi Direct or via OTG USB cable. I have managed to get the phone to connect to the 107 W printer in Wi-Fi Direct. This is evident, as the SSID label displayed on the phone will turn blue and the phone will stated is now connected. It takes many repetitions to get there. However the printer remains in a flashing blue wireless light state and does not change into a solid blue even depressing the button on the printer. There's nothing on the box that states that this printer is compatible with Android: only with Windows and Macintosh and other logos for Wi-Fi, AirPrint, Etc.

The two connection States we're attempted directly between the two devices, via mobile device connection menu, where there is a polling, or interconnection query, but no successful connection. Using either app, HP Service Plug-in or Smart, demonstrates no activity or active process for sensing and trying to establish a connection with the printer.
